(A1)-Confirmed human carcinogen: Agent is carcinogenic to humans based on epidemiologic studies of, or convincing clinical evidence, in exposed humans.
(A3)-Animal Carcinogen: Agent is carcinogenic in experimental animals at dose levels, by route(s) of administration at site, of histologic type, or by mechanism not considered relevant to worker exposure. Available epidemiologic studies do not confirm an increased risk of cancer in humans except under common levels of exposure.
(A4)-Not classifiable as a human carcinogen: Inadequate data on which to classify the agent in terms of its carcinogenicity in humans and or animals.
(J)-Inhalable fraction. The concentration of inhalable particulate for the application of this TLV is to be determined from the fraction passing a size-selector with the characteristics defined in the "A" paragraph of Appendix D in the current TLV Booklet.
(q)-Substances for which there are also ACGIH Biological Exposure Indices (BEIS).
(X)-Carcinogen defined with no further categorization.
(I)-Inhalable fraction, the concentration of inhalable particulate for the application of this TLV is to be determined from the fraction passing a size-selector with the characteristics defined in (A1).
SECTION III-SYMPTOMS OF OVEREXPOSURE
Cadmium Compounds-Overexposure to cadmium by inhalation can result in a metallic taste in the mouth, headache, shortness of breath, chest-pain, weakness, leg pains and fluid in the lungs. These signs and symptoms may be delayed, sometimes occurring four to eight hours following exposure. Kidney and liver damage nay also occur. Swallowing can result in severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, salivation, headache, muscle cramps and dizziness.
Long term overexposure to the fumes and dust of cadmium have been associated with emphysema, bronchitis and kidney damage. Chronic overexposure to the metal and cadmium compounds, such as cadmium oxide, cadmium sulfide, cadmium sulfate and cadmium chloride, may result in lung cancer, although a definite cause-effect relationship has not been fully established.
Chrome Oxide-Repeated or prolonged exposure to trivalent chromium compounds may cause delayed effects involving the respiratory system. Causes skin and eye irritation.
Cobalt Oxide-Prolonged inhalation of cobalt dust or metal dust, fume or mist containing cobalt may cause serious respiratory illness. Inhalation may cause an irritation of respiratory organs of sensitive persons resulting in obstruction of airways with shortness of breath. May cause serious eye irritation. Prolonged exposure to skin may produce irritation.
Iron Oxide-May cause mechanical skin eye irritation. Repeated and prolonged exposure to iron oxide may cause benign pneumoconiosis called siderosis.
Nickel Oxide-Primary entries through skin and inhalation of dust. May irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Can cause "Nickel Itch" in sensitive persons.

SECTION VIII-SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
Respiratory Protection: Use NIOSH/OSHA approve respiratory protection for organic
solvent vapors where levels exceeds Occupational Exposure Limits.
Personal Protective Equipment: Wear appropriate gloves and goggles to avoid skin and eye contact. Safety showers and eye stations must be present in work area.
Ventilation: Use local exhaust or mechanical such as a dust collector to maintain dust, and vapor levels below the Occupational Exposure Limits.
Handling and Storage: Keep containers closed and dry when not in use. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Store away from excessive heat or open flame.
Other Precautions: Avoid breathing dust, and vapors and use adequate ventilation. Wash thoroughly after handling. No eating, drinking or smoking in work area. Wash hands before breaks and at end of work shift. Practice good housekeeping, and personal hygiene procedures.
